Paralegal class to be offered in Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA – A Paralegal Studies Program will be offered on Northwestern State University’s Cenla Campus starting Thursday, Jan. 18. The class is offered through NSU’s Office of Electronic and Continuing Education and will be held on Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. through May 30. The deadline to register is Monday, Jan. 15. The Cenla Campus is at 1410 Neel Kearby Boulevard.  

This paralegal studies program is a 20-week course designed to train students for careers as paralegals or legal assistants in law firms, governmental agencies, corporate legal departments, public service organizations and other institutions.  Paralegals work under the supervision of an attorney and are not licensed to practice law.  Graduates who successfully complete the program will be well versed in banking, bankruptcy, criminal, family, social security, securities, and tort law; HIPPA; the judiciary role (District, Circuit and Supreme Court levels); as well as roles of the Clerk of the Court, Parish Tax Assessor, SEC and the Mediator.  Legal research, brief writing, legal matters will also be taught.
